In celebration of food writer and author John DeMers' new novel Marfa Shadows (a foodie murder mystery OMG!!), I'm in Marfa this weekend along with Monica Danna, Laura Mayes, Jenny LawsonKatherine Center and Nancy Wozny — deep in the heart of West Texas' desert.

And I don't think that any of us could be any happier about being in the middle of nowhere.

Marfa is one of those cities you hear about at artsy parties that you feel lucky to have been invited to – it's always lived in my mind as one of those funky places that folks visit once, buy a place on the second visit and emerge an even more creative type than they started.

My favorite Hugh in the world lives (very near) here.  The Marfa Film Festival is here (well, duh).  The very cool in ways I cannot define Marfa Prada is here.  Donald Judd's impressive body of work is here – along with many other minimalist visionaries.

Fantastic place, fantastic new friends, fantastic memories.  FANTASTIC.  When are we going back??
