Thanks AMA Houston Tech SIG for the Business Blogging conversation Business, social media, Web/Tech, Weblogs - April 2, 2008

The AMA Houston Tech SIG hosted a great Blog Forward presentation today with 3 panelists of various Blogging heritages including myself (www.happykatie.com and Schipul), Greg Price (of PKF and www.fromgregshead.com) and Michael Berry (of Ops Manager at Clear Channel and of KTRH blogs).
Many thanks to Rob Roberts and the AMA Tech SIG crew for hosting the event. I’m hoping that participants walked away with some actionable Blogging ideas for their own business online marketing adventures. Scroll to the end of this post to view my presentation slides or visit me on Slideshare here.
In the end, it’s all about the right people and the right content. Once you have those right, the possibilities are limitless. Recruit from within, grow your peoples’ personal brands and BLOG!! I highly recommend checking out this article by Ed Schipul on what to do when starting a Social Media program for additional background.
In case your geekery meter hasn’t overloaded yet, here are some links that I shared while on stage:

Katie: Looks like a great presentation. Sorry I missed it. Can you explain what the “Good Enough to Steal?” slide is about? Did mainstream media steal content from a blog without attribution or…?
Sure thing – the Schipul SEM Blog (www.thesemblog.com) had a ‘Social Media was plagiarized by an iMedia Connection Asia reporter. Another blogger recognized it as our copy and wrote a ‘Busted!’ blog post covering the content theft.
This prompted the article to be taken down, a formal apology phone call from an editor, and increased Web site traffic.
The SEM team (Jason McElweenie and Annisa Chan) got to see an initially lousy ordeal grow into some great PR!
Nice list of tools there. (Might want to consider gostats over statcounter so that you can be more savvy on that topic
– wouldn’t want you to come off as a newbie!
Thanks Chance, good suggestion on the GoStats but Stat Counter has been the easy freebie that most newbies I talk to seem to like the best.
I think it mostly has to do with the interface? In any case, yes — http://www.gostats.com definitely another avenue to check out
